The History of New Cassel
New Cassel Retirement Center first began serving the needs of the aging population on June 1, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska. The beautiful brick structure with ceramic tile roof, resembles the Italian architecture used in European structures, especially worship centers. It was built in 1966 by the School Sisters of Saint Francis and known to all as Our Lady of the Angels Province. After 7 years of operating as a convent, the School Sisters of Saint Francis were prayerfully guided to create a facility for the well elderly.
The name New Cassel came from the community of New Cassel, Wisconsin, where the Motherhouse of the School Sisters was located. New Cassel, the town, is now called Campbellsport.
In 1979, New Cassel constructed a new wing on the North end of the building, adding 103 apartments. In 2005, New Cassel added another 28 apartments with the addition of a new South wing.
With this completed expansion, New Cassel today has 179 apartments.
